Frequently asked questions:

My child isn’t interested in playing hockey, should they still attend?
Absolutely.  The sessions are structured so that your child will have the opportunity to learn the basics of skating in an atmosphere that is non-competitive and fun.  While there is a progression towards hockey, it is not mandatory.

Does my child really need all this equipment?
Yes.  This equipment is necessary for safety reasons especially for first time skaters who tend to fall a lot. Additionally, your child will be safe from accidentally being hurt from another skater.

Where can I buy the equipment?
Most sports stores will have skating equipment.  Whereas most children grow very quickly, used equipment is an affordable option.  Pure Hockey and Play It Again Sports are good sources.

What should my child wear?
Comfort is the key: warm sweatpants and a sweatshirt to wear under the practice jersey are ideal.

TYSA Learn to Skate Program

The TYSA Learn to Skate Program will start on Saturday, October 22nd at the Janas Rink in Lowell.  Sessions will be held on Saturday evenings and will run for 22 weeks at a cost of only $200.  We will have High School players from both public and private schools in the area assisting with the sessions as well as volunteer coaches.

Session One: 4:50 PM

Session Two: 5:50 PM

(Start times will change to 4:20 & 5:20 near the end of November)

All participants should report to the first session for evaluation. Skaters will then be assigned to Session One or Two based on skill level.

The first session will be for those who have never skated before and are just starting out.  The second session is for those who are comfortable on skates and would like to explore the sport of hockey (though this is not a requirement).  At the second session, TYSA will be introducing USA Hockey's ADM program.

Boys and girls age 4 and over from Tewksbury and surrounding towns are welcome to attend.  There are no residency requirements.
